Steve Philp or Philpy as he’s known to his fans is a dynamic Stand-Up Comedian, Actor and former Radio Announcer. Watching Philpy perform has been described as watching an episode of 80’s TV show “ It’s A Knockout” except he assures us no-one will get hurt!!
It’s no surprise that Philpy is huge hit with the younger generation of comedy fans as when Gen Y started watching TV they probably remember Steve from his childhood acting days when he was in the kids stage show Blinky Bill” and “Barney the Dinosaur” as well as working with The Wiggles on “ The Dorothy the Dinosaur show”.
Philpy burst onto the Stand Up Comedy scene after reaching the finals of the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival Raw Comedy Competition and then backing it up with a finals appearance in the Australia wide Green Faces Comedy competition.
Well on the road to a successful comedy career, Philpy started touring with comedians such as Carl Barron, Adam Hills, The Umbilical Brothers and international acts such as Tom Green and Arj Barker. With the experience and growing fan base gained through touring, Philpy has spent the last ten years as a corporate comedian, he has headlined at major comedy venues around Australia and played to sold out audiences at The Enmore Theatre and The Sydney Opera House.
For those that don’t know Steve Philp as the hilarious comedian you may have herd him on Nova’s Saturday morning Breakfast show “ Kennedy and Philp” or when he was a regular fill-in for radio legends Merrick and Rosso.
Philpy’s latest exploits include hosting the afternoon session of Tropfest and more recently Philpy has been in charge of firing up studio audiences on Channel 9’s NRL Footy Show, Channel 10’s Ready Steady Cook, Channel 7’s Battle of The Choirs and Channel 10’s “So you think you can Dance”
Steve’s biggest break came in 2008 when he and 13 other Australian comedians travelled to Miami to appear in the NBC’s “ Last Comic Standing” TV comedy show. Philpy’s stint in the US was a great success, he made the Quarter Finals of the show, performed live at the Miami improv and went into more then 2 million American lounge rooms when the show went to air. Philpy has since appeared as a comedian on the NRL Footy Show and been a panellist on the SBS sports show “The Squiz”. In addition, Philpy has appeared in a number of Australian TV commercials or big companies such as Pizza Hut and Castrol.
